Work to Replace Small Bridge to Begin in September

Hellertown's Harris Street Bridge is scheduled to be replaced, with work to begin in late September.

Hellertown Borough Engineer Bryan Smith, of Barry Isett and Associates, announced at a recent borough council meeting that the Harris Street bridge across the Silver Creek will soon be replaced.

Harris Street is an alley located between the 600 blocks of Main and Front streets in the borough's downtown.

The current metal grate bridge in the 600 block has been scheduled for replacement for some time.

Smith said the replacement project is expected to begin in late September and will take several weeks to complete.

Councilman Tom Rieger expressed a concern about completing the project in time for the Saucon Valley Spirit Parade on Sunday, Oct. 20.

If it remains closed, traffic woes in the immediate area could be exacerbated, he indicated.

Main Street between Water and Walnut streets will be closed during the afternoon parade, with traffic detoured onto Front Street.
