Tips Helped ID Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver, Police Say

Hellertown Police say information provided by 'concerned citizens' led them to Michael F. Montgomery, 52, of the 1000 block of New Jersey Avenue, who has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident.

Numerous tips from "concerned citizens" helped Hellertown Police identify the motorist allegedly responsible for a hit-and-run accident at East Depot Street and New Jersey Avenue, police said in a news release.

Police said Michael F. Montgomery, 52, of the 1000 block of New Jersey Avenue, Hellertown, was identified as the driver following an investigation that included analysis of evidence and information from the public.

In an earlier news release about the alleged incident, police said they were seeking information about the driver of a red 2004-2006 Toyota Solara that would be missing the driver's side half of its front bumper.

The accident happened March 18 at 6:53 p.m. and involved another occupied vehicle, according to police.

Police said Monday that Montgomery has been charged with Accident Involving Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property, Failure to Give Information and Render Aid, and a stop sign violation.

"The Hellertown Police Department is pleased to thank the concerned citizens who provided information and assisted in the discovery and apprehension of the offender," police added.
