119 Charged With DUI in Lower Saucon in 2012: Report

Although Lower Saucon Township Police charged 119 motorists with driving under the influence and 65 individuals with drug law violations in 2012, that number combined "dropped slightly" from the previous year, police said in their annual report.

In fact, in 2011 township police charged 124 people with DUI and 78 with drug law violations. 

The 2012 Lower Saucon Township Police Department annual report also included the following crime statistics:

• Police made 4,329 vehicle stops.
• Police responded to 251 vehicle crashes, which was six fewer than in 2011.
• Police investigated 25 burglaries, 22 assaults, 1 robbery and 6 vehicle thefts. The number of reported burglaries represents an increase from 2011.
• Police logged more than 227,000 miles while on patrol and performed 6,832 vacant home checks in the township.
• A total of 4,347 were responded to by police, which represents a 3 percent increase over 2011 but less than the record number of incidents in 2010.
• The average police response time to an incident was about 7 minutes.
• The overall clearance rate for offenses was about 72 percent. The clearance rate for Part I (the most serious) offenses was 42 percent, and the clearance rate for Part II offenses was 82 percent.

In terms of DUI/alcohol enforcement, and in conjunction with the Hellertown and Freemansburg police departments, police said the following proactive measures were taken under the direction of DUI Coordinator Robert Winters:

• Officers participated in 5 DUI checkpoints, 21 roving patrols and two Mobile Awareness events.
• 63 DUI and 10 drug arrests were made.
• 81 traffic citations were issued.
