Township Recipient of Grant for Traffic Light Battery Backups
In the spring, Lower Saucon Township received $53,430 in casino gaming grant funds to install battery back-up units on six local traffic signals.

recently prompted officials to seek grant money for battery backup units that will be installed on six local traffic signals.
According to information in the township's summer 2012 newsletter, $53,540 in Northampton County Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority was awarded to the township in May.
"The battery back-up systems will be installed with a generator connection that will provide an uninterruptible source of power for these traffic signals during any outage," the update explains.

"During ...traffic signals in the township were blacked out, which made it extremely hazardous for motorists and our emergency responders who were travelling these roads," it said.
