Water, Sewer Rates Could Jump 15 Percent for Some SV Residents

Some residents of Lower Saucon Township who are supplied public water via Bethlehem's system and some Hellertown residents who are supplied sewer services could be affected by a proposed 15 percent rate increase request.

If the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approves a request by Bethlehem's department of Water and Sewer Resources to increase rates for customers by 15 percent next year, some residents of Lower Saucon Township who are supplied public water via the system and some Hellertown residents who are supplied sewer services could be affected, the Express-Times reported Monday.

According to the article published by the newspaper, the PUC rarely approves the full increases requested by municipal authorities, and the requested increase in rates for both water and sewer services is being made to help pay for upgrades to Bethlehem's aging water and sewer infrastructure.
