Why are you seeking elective office?
I am running for school board because I have a personal interest in preserving & improving the quality of our school system. I intend to keep the best intention of our students in mind while acting as a conduit for the concerns of both parents & teachers.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
Individual student needs. I intend to support & empower our teachers & administrators to help our students strive for excellence, celebrate diversity & build resilience while bringing a passion for education that will allow our district to reach its fullest potential.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I am an alumna who has lived in the district for most of my life. I am a mother of a current H-H student & a future Hatter. I am involved in extracurricular district activities (including assistant directing the musical at Keith Valley).
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
I believe that there are some current school board members that have failed to fulfill their commitments as elected officials. By failing to show up for meetings, not participating in meetings & undermining the board, they have provided a disservice to community members & students who live in the district.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
Diversity, equity, inclusion, fiscal responsibility, supporting district administration & staff.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
As a former nurse manager & current head charge nurse, I am a natural leader. I have won countless awards during my nursing career including The Daisy Award (which honors the super-human work that nurses do for patients & families every day).
The best advice ever shared with me was:
To pay it forward. Every single day.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I intend to be a strong voice that represents different groups in the community & ensures that these voices are heard when making educational & administrative decisions. I believe that every student deserves an equal opportunity to become educated & to reach their highest potential regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc. Every child has the right to an education.
