On Wednesday night, the borough's fire company conducted training at the buildings.

So anyone who saw smoke and lots of fire trucks around the scene, it was just a drill and not a real incident.

Members of the fire company —along with the Ivyland Fire-Company and members from Huntingdon Valley Fire Company —utilize the buildings at 21-37 North York Road for some scenario-based training.

The building was smoked out with fake smoke, and members had the opportunity to practice advancing a hand line, searching for victims, putting out the simulated fire, and cutting the roof.

"This training is invaluable and is the closest we can get to the real thing. It allows us to practice and keep our skills sharp at all times," the fire company said.

The fire company thanked the property owner, Petrucci Residential, for allowing the fire department the opportunity to use the building for valuable training before it's torn down. The fire comapny also thanked the fire police for assisting with traffic control in front of the building to keep members safe.
