Get Your Free Pretzel on Friday!

Sometimes it pays to be the early bird. 

Take Friday for instance. The Philly Soft Pretzel Factory store in Horsham is giving away free pretzels all day to celebrate National Pretzel Day. But, if you're one of the first 100 in the door of the 499 Horsham Road location, you will receive a card for one free pretzel each day for the month of May.

Last year, Horsham store owner Mike Loose said he gave away about 700 pretzels and this year hopes to up that amount to 1,000 or more. Just like Black Friday shoppers line up early for bargains, so too, do customers rise early for the lure of the salty, doughy treat. Last year, Loose said people who came by at 7:30 a.m. were "bummed" that they were not one of the first 100. 

So, what do all these extra pretzels mean for the people making them? 

"We’ll be there at 3:30 or 4 o'clock in the morning," Loose said. "We just bring in a couple extra hands."

Besides Horsham, more than 100 franchised Philly Soft Pretzel Factory pretzel locations will be giving away pretzels on Friday. Click here to find another store.

In all, the company expects to give away between 35,000 and 40,000 pretzels systemwide, according to Spokeswoman Carly Levison. It will take approximately 10,000 pounds of flour to make those pretzels, she said.

Last year, the company's franchises gave out a combined 30,000 to 35,000 pretzels, Levison said.
