Hatboro-Horsham Buses Get State Clean-Air Grant

HORSHAM, PA — Some Hatboro-Horsham school buses are among the local vehicles that'll be getting an environmentally friendly makeover thanks to a state grant.

State Sen. Marie Collett announced the awarding of $325,000 in Alternative Fuel Incentive Grants for clean-energy vehicle projects in her district. They include $300,000 for Waste Management to outfit eight, heavy-duty compressed natural gas vehicles and $25,000 for Hatboro-Horsham School District to get three new propane school buses.

"Transitioning to alternative fuel vehicles will help reduce our carbon footprint in Pennsylvania and save us money in the long run," said Collett. "I’m pleased to see two major projects in our district receive funding, and I encourage local municipalities, nonprofits, school districts, and businesses to apply for remaining grants by Dec. 13."

The program aims to improve Pennsylvania’s air quality, reduce consumption of imported oil and boost the commonwealth’s economy with alternative energy projects.

About $3 million dollars in AIFG funding remains available in 2019, and local school districts, municipalities, nonprofits, and businesses are encouraged to apply.
