HORSHAM, PA — This eastern Montgomery County town was one of those hit especially hard during last week’s storms resulting from Hurricane Ida.

Around 500 homes were reportedly damaged by tornado winds or flooding, government officials told local media, and downed power lines and trees sprinkled the township.

On Wednesday, Horsham officials laid out the work being done thus far to remediate the storm damage.

In an Ida-related storm update page on the township’s website, Horsham leaders said that the initial focus on cleanup would be the removal of vegetative waste such as tree branches, leaves, logs and plants that littered the roadways and local properties.

Montgomery County has just signed a contract with Horsham for debris removal in the township, the website states, and county crews were scheduled continuing sweeping the township Thursday to rid neighborhoods of all the debris and waste caused by last week’s intense storms, which resulted in water-trapped vehicles and wind-damaged homes.

County crews will first rid hard-hit neighborhoods of the vegetative waste while a secondary removal of items like damaged electronics, appliances, hazardous waste and construction debris would come after, according to the township.

Removal crews were expected to work seven days a week, from “sun-up to sun down,” according to the township.

Residents were asked to continue placing any debris at the curb in front of their homes to ensure that items are within a 15-foot buffer zone due to private property issues.

As Horsham begins to recover from last week’s storms, 6 ABC Action News on Wednesday named Horsham Fire Co. Deputy Chief Jess Mancini it’s “Hometown Hero” for the work he’s doing to help neighbors. The television station highlighted Mancini in a segment, which can be viewed here.

Following the storms, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf joined emergency management personnel, local government officials and state lawmakers on a tour of the affected regions, which included Horsham and Upper Dublin Townships in Montgomery County, as well as other Montco municipalities and those in Chester County.
