“Community involvement in itself is the most powerful force any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime,” reads an online blurb about the upcoming event. “This is an excellent opportunity to meet and interact with the members of the Horsham, Hatboro, and Upper Moreland Police Departments about issues that concern you.”
Classes during the program will touch on areas of policing such as accident investigation, Pennsylvania crime statutes and use-of-force laws, according to information about the program found on Horsham Township’s website.

Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a mock crime scene investigation, and demonstrations will be offered by K9 officers and members of the Moreland Area Emergency Response Team.
A local magisterial district judge is also expected to be in attendance to speak about judicial issues.
Those who are interested in attending can pick up an application either online or in-person at any of the participating police departments. Applications must be submitted no later than Sept. 7.
The Citizens Police Academy will take place every Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 14 through Nov. 23. There is no cost to participate in the 10-week course.
