Powersport Theft Warning Issued For Philly Region
Authorities in Bucks and Montgomery counties are warning residents to beware of thieves seeking powersport vehicles.

PHILADELPHIA REGION — Authorities are warning residents throughout the Philadelphia region to protect their powersport vehicles.
The Bucks County District Attorney's Office and the Hatboro Borough Police Department were among the agencies sending out an alert recently stating that with the weather warming, thieves are out looking to steal powersport vehicles.
Authorities said thieves are seeking ATVs, motorcycles, motorized scooters, mini bikes, and dirt bikes.

Given that these vehicles can be lifted or ridden away quickly and more easily than a car or truck, they are hot items for thieves, authorities said.
The thefts also often bring other problems like driving on sidewalks, groups of riders doing wheelies on highways, and attempts to elude police at the expense of community safety, authorities said.

They often also include title washing investigations, counterfeit titles, re-vinned stolen vehicles, and identity theft investigations. Out of sight, out of mind. Remember to keep your powersport vehicles out of view if stored outside. Use deterrents like chains and locks (steering wheel, disc brake, or wheel locks) with a floor anchor. But whenever possible, store these vehicles in a locked shed or garage. Tag and track. Consider installing a tracking device to help find your vehicle if it's stolen. Or consider installing a kill switch that can shut off the vehicle from a remote location. Document your ATV or powersport vehicle's serial or VIN numbers and take photos of the vehicles for crime reporting or insurance purposes. As always, never leave your keys with your vehicle. Don't let a crook steal your fun!
