Read Across America Special Guests Support Horsham School

Horsham Township Council, police, and township staff showed up at Blair Mill Elementary School Friday to read for Dr. Suess' birthday.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —It's the "Cat in the Hat" and all that.

When it comes to Dr. Seuss, his memory is honored every year as school districts across the country open doors for "Read Across America."

Horsham Township was no different on Friday.

Blair Mill Elementary School featured some special readers on Friday as Horsham Township Council President William Whiteside, Councilwoman Ellen Zschunke, and township staff.

State Rep. Melissa Cerrato was there, too.

Also in attendance were Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder, Hatboro-Horsham Schools Superintendent Scott Eveslage, and school officials Andre McLaurin, Ted Domers, and David Weber, along with school board members David Brown and DJ Schultz.

They participated in Blair Mill Elementary’s "One School One Book Read Across America Kickoff."

"Reading is important because it helps us learn new things, build knowledge, and develop critical thinking skills. It can also improve our memory, communication skills, and mental health," township officials said.

Among those participating besides Whiteside and Zschunke were:

  • Police Detective Gloria Hatcher
  • Police Detective Michael Peter
  • Township Librarian Bryan Sotnyk
  • Township Librarian Ellyn Benner
  • Twp Librarian Kyle Crossan
