Single-use plastic bags are prohibited in Upper Dublin Township, Cheltenham Township, and Upper Moreland Township. And now Abington Township has decided to ban the bags as well.

Abington Township became the first community this year in Montgomery County to ban the single-use plastic bags, PennEnvironment reported.

The environmental organization said that 20 percent of Pennsylvanians now live in a municipality with a single-use plastic bag ban.

Abington Township is the 37th municipality in Pennsylvania and the 15th in Montgomery County to pass legislation in the growing effort to rein in single-use plastics, PennEnvironment said.
