Johnstown City Council Releases Proposed 2026 Budget (fox8tv.com) — Johnstown residents can now review a proposed 2026 city budget that boosts overall spending by about $1 million, including major increases for demolition and new parking pay stations. The Johnstown Housing Authority’s payment for police services would rise to roughly $570,000. Council plans a special New Year’s Eve meeting at 5 p.m. to vote on the plan.
   

2. Attention - Certified Officers ! We are hiring (crimewatchpa.com) — Johnstown residents interested in law enforcement can now apply for full-time police officer positions with the Johnstown Police Department, with applications open through January 19, 2026. Physical, written, and oral testing will be held January 24 at Johnstown High School and the Public Safety Building, and applicants must meet age, education, and Act 120 certification requirements.
   

3. JFD: Dog killed in nighttime kitchen fire at West End home (wjactv.com) — Firefighters in Johnstown’s West End responded to a nighttime kitchen fire on Strayer Street where one dog died and another was rescued. No residents were home, and the blaze was contained to the kitchen. Investigators don’t suspect foul play, and officials are reminding locals that free smoke detectors are available through the American Red Cross.
   

4. Authority, JAC reach tentative deal for management of War Memorial (wtaj.com) — A new seven-year management deal could reshape how 1st Summit Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial and the Pasquerilla Conference Center in Johnstown are run. County officials unanimously backed bringing in Youngstown-based JAC Management Group, replacing longtime operator Legends Global, though financial details haven’t been released yet. Leaders say they expect fresh energy and ideas for Johnstown’s key venues.
   

5. Mountain Cats Turned Aside by Bloomsburg in PSAC Crossover Contest (pittjohnstownathletics.com) — Pitt-Johnstown’s women’s basketball team fell 68-62 to Bloomsburg in a PSAC crossover game at the Sports Center in Johnstown, despite a strong second-half push. Liv West led the Mountain Cats with 17 points, while the team now looks to rebound in Saturday’s road matchup at East Stroudsburg.
