2nd Montco Animal Sanctuary Fire In A Week Leaves Several Cats Dead

It's the second deadly blaze at an animal rescue in Montgomery County in a matter of days.

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, PA — A Montgomery County farm animal sanctuary was severely damaged by fire over the weekend, killing more than a dozen cats, marking the second deadly blaze at a farm rescue in the county in the past week.

The fire occurred at the Pawsibilities Animal Rescue in Towamencin Township on Sunday.

The fire destroyed a beloved barn on Mainland Road that housed farm animals and an entire outdoor colony of feral barn cats. Several cats were inside the barn when the fire erupted and were killed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

"This barn was more than just a structure; it was a sanctuary," the rescue added.

It comes just says after a fire last week at the House of Wiggle Goats in Worcester Township, which left 40 animals dead and dozens missing. The two fires do not appear to be related.

Pawsibilities and owner Samantha Carroll said that they do not need assistance from other rescues now, but thanked a host of local organizations for reaching out.

"At this time, we need to regroup and we will have more information to follow," they added.

Donations to their recovery can be made online here.

An investigation into the latest blaze is underway.
