Annual North Penn 'Reading Super Bowl' Set For 19th Year

The North Penn Super Bowl tradition connects high school football players with young children to promote literacy.

LANSDALE, PA — In conjunction with the upcoming Super Bowl, North Penn School District will hold a special "Reading Super Bowl" to encourage and promote literacy in elementary schools.

High school football players from North Penn will visit various elementary schools in the district and read to young children.

"The event is mutually beneficial, encouraging young students to read and find a love of books while also providing high school students the opportunity to be role models for younger students and develop leadership skills," the district said in a statement.

The annual event began in 2005 and is now in its 19th year. This year, 80 players will visit all 13 elementary schools in the district, reaching an estimated 6,150 children.

The North Penn School District Educational Foundation organizes the event.
