The theft happened early Wednesday morning at a home in Montgomery Township. The thieves used a garage door opener taken from a car.

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, PA — A pair of thieves stole a vehicle from a residential garage early Wednesday morning in this central Montgomery County community, and they used a garage door opener they took from an unlocked car in the driveway to gain access to the garage.

Police in Montgomery Township say they are seeking the public's assistance in locating the suspects, who were seen on area security cameras during the theft.

Authorities said that the Infinity QX60 was stolen Wednesday around 4:30 a.m. from a home on the 200 block of Westminster Drive.

Police officers discovered a vehicle in the driveway with a door open and a residential garage partially open at the same home.

After checking the vehicle in the driveway, it was determined that the suspects had entered the unlocked car, removed the garage door opener, and used it to gain access to the Infinity, which was parked inside the closed garage, according to police.

Police said that at the time it was stolen, the Infinity had the keys inside.

The homeowner's purse and wallet were also reportedly taken during the theft.

Officers said that another incident had occurred about a half-hour before the theft, in which the same suspects are believed to have entered a truck on the 100 block of Birch Court, removed a garage door opener, and entered a vehicle that was parked inside that residential garage.

In that case, however, nothing was stolen from inside the garage, but the thieves did manage to take a set of Apple iPods and an envelope containing business cards from the parked truck that was entered, police said.

Montgomery Township Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspects and are urging anyone with information to call 215-362-2301 or email police@montpd.org.
