North Penn High School Fall Show "Pride and Prejudice"

The North Penn High School Theatre invites the entire community to its Fall Show, Pride and Prejudice, on November 17, 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. with a special matinee on November 19 at 2 p.m. All shows take place in the North Penn High School auditorium, located at 1340 Valley Forge Road in Lansdale.

First published in 1813, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice continues to be one of the most famous and favorite novels of all time. Pride and Prejudice the play is a bright and sparkling romantic comedy that is a challenge for North Penn High School Theatre students as they learn the style of the early 19th Century in dancing, costuming, English accents, and the language of Austen.

Jon Jory’s adaptation of the classic novel is a faithful rendition of the beloved book that chronicles the five spirited Bennet sisters Jane, Elizabeth and Mary (Val Smith, Jess Arnold, Catie Quinn, seniors), Kitty (Chelsea Aubert, sophomore) and Lydia (Shweta Akolkar, junior). Their overbearing mother (Abagael Bergey, junior) and reclusive father (Nathan Borzillo, sophomore) attempt to find each daughter a suitable husband even though they have no dowries to attract a suitor. But hope springs as the agreeable and rich Mr. Bingley (Pascal Portney, junior) and his disagreeable, but richer friend, Mr. Darcy (Gabe Quinodoz, senior) move into the neighborhood. Additional suitors also appear in the form of their cousin, Mr. Collins (Tucker Breder, sophomore) and the dashing soldier, Mr. Wickham (Mitchell Yetter, senior). The turns of fortune as the sister’s fall in and out of love are as complicated and enjoyable as the intricate and lovely country dances of the day.  The heart of the story is the frustrated love of Mr. Bingley and Jane and the battle of wits between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. It is Mr. Darcy’s pride and prejudice that separates Mr. Bingley and Jane, even as he falls in love with Elizabeth, in spite of her prejudice and pride against him. Will Darcy and Elizabeth be able to see through their pride and prejudices to value real love for themselves and others? The answer to that question has teased readers and audiences for generations. Audiences of many ages will delight in the bubbling life and laughter of the many memorable characters and adventures.
