Felony Charges After Man Drove Stolen Car Around Montco Town: Reports

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, PA — A Philadelphia man is facing criminal charges in Montgomery County after police say he drove a stolen vehicle around town while having a suspended driver's license, according to media reports and court records.
Malik Anthony Smith, 27, is facing a felony count of receiving stolen property and a summary count of driving on a suspended license following an incident Tuesday in Montgomery Township, reads a report on NorthPennNow.
A search of state court records reveals that Smith was arraigned on Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth McHugh Casey, who remanded the defendant to the county jail in lieu of posting $10,000 bail.

Court records show that a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 6 before Magisterial District Judge Andrea Hudak Duffy.
The NorthPennNow report says that Montgomery Township Police stopped the vehicle that Smith was driving at around 3:30 in the morning Tuesday, at which time they discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of the City of Philadelphia.

During the traffic stop, which reportedly occurred along the 700 block of Bethlehem Pike, police said Smith told them he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend, but the story could not be corroborated, and Smith was subsequently taken into custody and criminally charged after Philadelphia Police confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen.
