FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, PA — Local police are easing the public's mind after some confusion about a possible threat at Souderton Area High School Wednesday, saying investigators determined the threat was unfounded.

The Franconia Township Police Department said Thursday that the high school was made aware of a threatening social media post attributed to a Souderton student, but police working closely with school officials concluded that there was "no credible threat," and that some social media posts had "mischaracterized what had actually occurred and we want to clarify that no specific, direct threat was made," Franconia Police said on their Facebook page.

"Again, our police department, along with school and other local departments are providing a visible presence at the high school to reassure the safety and comfort of students, staff, and parents," the department posted.

The statement continued: "Threats of any kind are never taken lightly, and we will always act quickly and collaborate closely with school district administrators and police to ensure the safety of all students and the community at large."

The statement came on a day when a Springfield high-schooler in eastern Montgomery County was arrested for making terroristic threats, and a private school that sits in both Upper Dublin and Springfield Townships was briefly placed on a lock-out due to a reported threat.
