Fake Montco Sheriff's Deputies Launch New Phone Scam: What To Know
Scammers often threaten residents with "arrest" if they do not comply with demands.
MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are warning Montgomery County residents of an increase in calls from scammers pretending to be sheriff's deputies.
Residents in Montgomery Township have reported several of the scam calls in recent days, and a similar scam has been plaguing the area since mid-February.
The callers claim to be with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department and tell victims that they missed jury duty. They say that an arrest warrant will be issued if payment is not made.
