Motorists urged to seek alternate route for repair of pothole near the North Wales Road overpass on the Northeast Extension

Update 12:27 a.m.
The left lane of southbound I-476 at milepost A24.8 is expected to reopen to traffic at around 3 a.m.
Mimi Doyle of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said the contractor is leaving the left lane closed in the area to give the bridge deck repair material additional time to cure and reach adequate strength.

There was no backlog of traffic as of 12:28 a.m.
The right lane of southbound I-476 remains open.

Update 6:09 p.m.
According to Mimi Doyle of the PTC, the right lane remains open southbound on 476 and traffic is moving slowly past the work zone at milepost A24.8.
Traffic is backed up about four miles, Doyle said.
Crews are waiting for the bridge deck repair material to reach adequate strength before opening the left southbound lane.
Update 3:42 p.m.
According to Mimi Doyle of the PTC, the left-lane at milepost A24.8 remains closed; however, there is no reported back-log in the area southbound.
Update 12:32 p.m.
The right lane of southbound I-476 remains open and traffic is moving past the work zone.
Traffic is backed up at least three mile north of the Lansdale Interchange.
Mimi Doyle of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said crews are working to reopen the left lane southbound before rush hour.
Update 11:37 a.m.
Mimi Doyle of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said emergency deck repairs are underway where the turnpike bridge crosses North Wales Road.
Work is being done by Walsh Construction, who is the contractor on the six-lane widening project of I-476.
As of 11:37 a.m., there is a 10-mile backup.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced there will be an extended closure through most of Tuesday to repair a massive pothole in the left southbound lane of Interstate 476 between the Lansdale and Mid-County interchanges.
According to Mimi Doyle of the PTC, maintenance is monitoring the backlog of traffic at mile marker 35.5 southbound. That means, as of 10:30 a.m., there is an 11-mile backup.
Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.
According to Doyle, work is at the mainline bridge where the turnpike crosses North Wales Road at milepost 24.8.
Motorists are experiencing delays on Sumneytown Pike in Towamencin at the Exit 31 interchange due to the construction, Doyle said.
