Man Smashed Window Of Off-Duty Officer's Car During Road Rage: Reports

UPPER GWYNEDD, PA — A Conshohocken man is facing criminal charges after allegedly smashing the window of an off-duty police officer's car during a road rage incident in this Montgomery County community earlier this month.

David Andrew Stitt, 37, has been charged with felony aggravated assault and a host of misdemeanor counts in connection with an Aug. 8 incident at the intersection of the Route 202 Parkway and Welsh Road in Upper Gwynedd Township, according to media reports.

The website NorthPennNow reported that a vehicle driven by Stitt abruptly slammed its breaks, causing the off-duty officer to use his horn, after which Stitt reportedly got behind the officer's vehicle, pulled out a baseball bat, and proceeded to strike the victim's door and then driver's side window.

The force of the blow caused the window to shatter and led to pieces of broken glass causing injuries to the victim's face and leg, according to NorthPennNow.

The victim reportedly works as a police officer for a local agency, but the name of the department and the officer have not been publicly released.

A search of court records shows that Upper Gwynedd Police filed charges on Aug. 17 against Stitt, who appears to be in custody at the county jail after failing to post $99,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for this Thursday before Magisterial District Court Judge Suzan Leonard.

Aside from the felony aggravated assault charge, Stitt is also facing misdemeanor counts of possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.

There is also a summary harassment charge against him.

A search of Pennsylvania court records shows that Stitt has numerous other criminal charges pending against him in other nearby communities.

Police in his hometown of Conshohocken filed criminal charges against Stitt on Aug. 11, three days after the Upper Gwynedd incident.

Charges on that docket include misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and summary counts of reckless driving, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and careless driving.

And in July, police in East Norriton Township charged Stitt with a felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and a summary charge of reckless driving.

There is also a case playing out against Stitt in neighboring Chester County, where West Whiteland Township Police charged Stitt in July with various counts of harassment.
