Montco Teen Sped Before Fatal Crash, Then Fled Scene: State Police

The Montgomery County teenager then fled from the scene without calling for help as his passenger died, police said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A Montgomery County teenager was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed, killing a 15-year-old passenger, state police announced Monday.

The incident occurred on April 24 in Salford Township, on Whites Mill Road between Badman Road and Reeler Road.

The driver, Logan Freed, 18, of Telford, then fled the scene on foot without calling for help, according to investigators.

The victim, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene as Freed fled, police said.

The vehicle sent out an automated signal reporting the crash, which is how state police discovered the crash.

Freed has been charged with homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death, reckless endangerment, failure to render aid, and numerous related counts.

He was booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility on Friday. A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
