Montco Tornado Details: Twister Reached 105 MPH, Traveled 8 Miles
Investigators with the National Weather Service released a detailed report on the tornado that touched down in Montgomery County this week.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Investigators with the National Weather Service released a detailed report on the tornado that touched down in Montgomery County this week, noting peak winds of about 105 miles per hour and a course of more than eight miles around the area. It was one of three tornadoes which touched down in the region overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
The twister, which reached an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, ripped up trees, roofs, and wires, but did not cause physical injury to anyone. It stretched about 140 yards wide, investigators said.
It's estimated to have touched down at 12:25 a.m. Thursday morning in Hatfield Township, as the final remnants of Tropical Storm Fred moved across the state.

From a point about a mile and half south of Souderton, the twister brought down a tree branch and tore the siding off a home on Garrison Lane.

Moving on, it lifted briefly off the ground and swung up Township Line Road, where it made some of its most noticeable impact in the Hidden Springs mobile community. Several trees and branches were felled, and debris was scattered around the area. Some of the trees and branches fell on homes in the area.
Heading northeast, the twister entered Hilltown Township, tearing a metal roof off a garage in Silverdale, and damaging a farmhouse roof on Souderton Road. As it began to lift, it ripped a section of roofing off an auto repair shop on North Dublin Pike, near Blue School Road.
By 12:40 a.m., some 15 minutes later, it went into the air and did not touch down again.
Two other tornados were confirmed in the area Wednesday into Thursday: an EF-1 in Berks County, and an EF-0 in Morris County, New Jersey.
