Montgomery Township Police Announce Sudden Passing Of Canine
Canine 'Cody' had been employed with the Montgomery Township Police Department since 2014. He was a patrol and explosives detection dog.

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, PA — The local police department has announced that its patrol and explosives detection expert canine has suddenly passed away.
Cody, who has been employed with the Montgomery Township Police Department for the past eight years, was 9 years old.
The department says that Cody was the faithful partner of his human handler, Officer Joe McGuigan.

"Many have had the opportunity to meet Cody during his many visits with students, groups, and others since beginning service to our community in 2014," the police department posted to its Facebook page Tuesday.
The department said that Cody had received numerous commendations and certifications during his nearly decade-long service to the community. He most recently finished third overall at the United States Police Canine Association Region 6 Police Dog Field Trials in November.

"Please keep Officer McGuigan in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the department posted.
A cause of death for Cody was not given, with the department only saying that the canine passed away suddenly.
