Motorcyclist Has Leg Amputated, Then Dies Following Monday Night Crash In Montco

A Hatfield man ended up dying after being involved in a motorcycle accident Monday night in Franconia. He lost his leg during the incident.

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, PA — A motorcyclist passed away overnight following a two-vehicle accident in Franconia Township Monday, according to local police.

Franconia Township Police Sgt. Steven Cronin told Patch that a 28-year-old motorcyclist from Hatfield had his leg amputated during the crash and then later died from his injuries.

The man was riding a Kawasaki Z650 and apparently crashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe along East Township Line Road in the area of Cowpath Road and Penn Avenue sometime after 10 Monday night.

Cronin said the roadway was closed for about three hours as police investigated at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing but preliminary findings appear to show the motorcyclist may have crashed into the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The driver of the Santa Fe was uninjured, Cronin said.

The motorcyclist, who lost his leg, was given lifesaving measures at the scene and then transported by ambulance to Lansdale Hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries, according to Cronin.

Police from neighboring Hatfield Township assisted at the scene.

Montgomery County Incident Alerts reported a little after 10 p.m. Monday that there had been a serious motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle rider whose leg was amputated in the crash, and that emergency responders were performing CPR on the victim at the scene.
