North Penn YMCA to Hold Family Mini Golf Night

The mini-golf night will help celebrate spending time outdoors while supporting the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.

The North Penn YMCA is inviting area families out for a little outdoor mini golf.

The event will take place April 26, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Freddy Hill Farms, located at 1440 Sumneytown Pike in Lansdale.

“It’s going to be a family outing,” Donna Smallwood, North Penn YMCA coordinator of special events, said. “We figured we could get them outside and have some fun.”

Tickets for the event cost $10, and proceeds will benefit the YMCA "Strong Kids Campaign". According to the North Penn YMCA website, the “Strong Kids Campaign” is the theme for the YMCA annual Gifts Campaign, which aims to make YMCA programs available to all people, regardless of their financial situation.

In addition to local YMCA branch-fundraising events, such as the North Penn YMCA mini-golf night, the campaign also invites the community to provide donations.

As listed on the North Penn YMCA website, direct donations to the Strong Kids Campaign may:

  • $26 Enables a senior adult to participate in a water class to help manage her arthritis
  • $57 Gives a child 8 weeks of swim lessons so they learn how to stay safe in the neighborhood pool
  • $150 Sends a child to one week of summer camp, giving a working, single-parent peace of mind
  • $264 Opens the door to a 7th grader, giving them a place to learn from positive role models and a place to belong
  • $325 Provides one month of preschool to a child helping to prepare him to enter elementary school
  • $876 Allows a low-income family to  join the Y and spend quality time together

The mini-golf night also heralds the North Penn YMCA Healthy Kids Weekend, starting that night April 26, and lasting through Sunday, April 29.

According to Smallwood, the Healthy Kids Weekend is in recognition of the YMCA National Healthy Kids Day, April 27, which promotes health and well-being of children by getting them ready for an active summer.

Smallwood describes the Healthy Kids Weekend as a sort of open house at both the Lansdale and Indian Valley branches of the North Penn YMCA. She said that the community is invited to experience the Y for free during the weekend, where family swims, programs, informational vendors and a coloring contest will be available.
