PHILLIES Rattle Diamondbacks…

…and it wasn't even that close! PHILLIES Capped Wed. June 14, 2023

vs

Last night, baseball officials closed the roof at Chase Field, AZ, and the Diamondbacks (41-26) went back into hibernation, scoring but three late runs, one in each of innings 6, 7, 8. YOUR (33-34) Phillies win, 15-3. Your Phils now have the best-in-MLB (last 3-games) Team Batting Average of 0.390#.

“They try to bite you as they did in the opener the opener and you grab ‘em by the throat and just hang on”, said Philly faithful, DanJay Maerna, who made the trip from his home to downtown Phoenix.

In just two nights, the Phillies have amassed 23 runs (to the D-Backs 12), a powerful showing for both teams making for some great baseball.

The Phillies bats seem to have come alive in June (and no fielding errors last night:)

In the outing, the Phillies jumped out to a 4-0 start. Kyle Schwarber lined the opening pitch to RF just shy of a home run. On the next pitch he let loose in perfect Schwarbomb fashion, 450 ft., Phillies up 1-0.

Lucky no. 7 SS Trea Turner went 2-for-3 with 2 walks. The much needed return of 3B Alec Bohm, 2-for-5, added 2 RBI. And, All-Star favorite (23 doubles, 41 RBI) RF Nick Castellanos went 2-for-6 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI (YOU can cast YOUR votes at MLB.com).

The 20-hit beatdown, on the team with the National League’s best record, included 4 more runs in the top of the 9th. Nearly every Phillies player scored a run in the game – Guthrie (1), Sosa (1), Stott (1), Harper (1), Realmuto (3), Marsh (1). Cody Clemens had a hit and drove in a run. Catcher Garrett Stubbs relieved Realmuto at the plate.

Winning pitcher 5-4 Zack Wheeler (7 SO) and reliever Luis Ortiz (S1) provided all the antivenom the Phillies would need, throwing 6 and 3 innings, respectively, of near lights out baseball.

Another Phils win this evening, 9:40 p ET, will assure at least a split in the 4-game series ending tomorrow. The Chase Field, AZ, outside temp. is forecast to be no greater than 98 degrees at 6:40 p local time first pitch.
