Philly Man Arrested in Towamencin for Concealed, Loaded Revolver During DUI Stop

A Philadelphia man pulled over by Towamencin Township Police for a busted headlight was found to have a loaded, concealed .22-caliber revolver in his jacket pocket and was not licensed to carry a concealed firearm.

Gerald Samuel Gethers III, 22, of the 700 block of Rhawn Street, was also charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license, police said.

Gethers’ vehicle was stopped on Jan. 20 at 1 a.m. on the 1600 block of Valley Forge Road after officers spotted the vehicle on Sumneytown Pike with an inoperative passenger side headlight, police said.

Gethers was found to be allegedly in possession of a loaded .22-caliber revolver in his jacket pocket, police said. Gethers does not have a license to carry a concealed weapon, police said. There is also a protection from abuse order against Gethers, police said.

Gethers was arrested on the weapons violations and for driving under the influence, police said.

Gethers was charged with:

  • Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Individual
  • Felony Carrying a Firearm Without a License
  • Misdemeanor Possession of a Firearm by a Person with an Active Protection from Abuse Order
  • Misdemeanor DUI
  • Driving With a Suspended or Revoked License
  • Driving with No Headlights

Gethers was remanded by District Judge John Kessler to Montgomery County Prison in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. before District Judge Harold Borek.
