4 Cats Rescued From Major House Fire In Phoenixville

Crews from several surrounding municipalities descended on a home in Phoenixville on Tuesday.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Four cats were rescued from a Phoenixville home after a significant fire damaged it on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at about 8:20 a.m. on 100 block of Starr Street.

Several fire trucks and responders from numerous surrounding municipalities arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke coming from the back of the 1.5 story home.

Crews attacked both the first and second floors and the roof with three hose lines, while other firefighters searched the home for any occupants.

They found no people, but safely rescued four cats that were trapped inside. One of the cats was administered oxygen, but all four were otherwise uninjured.

Holes were cut in the roof to allow for ventilation and further inspection of the attic area, and walls and ceilings were also opened to better access the fire.

The blaze was under control by 8:49 a.m., with no injuries reported.

The home suffered significant damage.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, but it is believed to be accidental.

Phoenixville Public Works also assisted by salting the ice that had formed from the runoff of water used to fight the fire.

All crews were clear of the scene by about 10:20 a.m.
