LANSDALE, PA — The sole occupant of a home in the borough that quickly caught on fire Tuesday was forced to jump from a second-story window as flames engulfed the building around her.

Fire officials say the individual had to be treated at local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury and has since been released.

Pets in the home, however, are currently still unaccounted for and are believed to have perished in the blaze.

This was the account given to Patch by Lansdale Fire Marshal Richard Lesniak about a house fire that occurred on Hancock Street Tuesday a little after 1 in the afternoon.

Firefighters with the Fairmount Fire Company and other neighboring fire departments were dispatched to the home at 1:19 p.m. for a report of a dwelling fire, and upon arrival fire crews quickly found the residence to be engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

The fire quickly became a second-alarmer due to the intensity of the fire, Lesniak said, and the blaze eventually began spreading to an adjacent home, although the occupants of that building were still able to stay within the home as firefighters battled the fire.

One Fairmount firefighter had to be transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury, Lesniak said, and the individual has since been released from doctors' care.

Lesniak said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Community members are asked to help the displaced homeowners in several ways. Gift cards can be dropped off at the office of State Rep. Steve Malagari, located at 100 W. Main Street, Suite 110, during normal business hours.

And daily essential items, such as toiletries, can be dropped off at Round Guys Brewing Company, at 324 W. Main St., and also at Scent & Sip, 323 W. Main St., also during normal business hours.

Lesniak reminded residents to make sure working smoke alarms are installed on every level of their home as well as in each bedroom. He did not say whether the home on Hancock Street had working smoke detectors.
