3 Public Meetings Planned On Interstate 95 Bridge Replacement

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —Three public meetings —with one scheduled in Levittown —will take place later this month as the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority consider replacing the Interstate 95 bridge connecting Lower Bucks County and New Jersey.

Following a fall survey seeking commuter comment, a public comment period will open starting Wednesday and run until April 12. Results from the public survey will also be revealed.

The transportation agencies —with oversight from the Federal Highway Administration —are currently re-evaluating rehabilitation and replacement options for the existing 70-year-old bridge.

Commuters are encouraged to attend the meetings to provide feedback on what should be done with the bridge that spans Bristol Borough and Bristol Township in Lower Bucks County and Florence and Burlington County.

A 2003 alternative called for building a new bridge to carry eastbound (i.e. I-95 NB to N.J.) traffic and rehabilitating the existing bridge to carry westbound (i.e. I-95 SB to PA) traffic.

In 2017, a fracture of one of the existing bridge approach trusses required a full closure of more than six weeks while the bridge was fully inspected and repaired.

About 67,000 vehicles travel this section of Interstate 95 daily, officials said.

• New Jersey In-Person Public Meeting Open House: Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Florence Township Municipal Building, 711 Broad Street, Florence, NJ.
