BRISTOL, PA — A Bristol man was convicted by a Bucks County jury of shooting at a group of people, which included a 4-year-old child, in Bristol Township in November of 2019.

Sysco Schruby, 22, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated assault on Wednesday. His charges included attempting to cause serious bodily injury, as well as two counts of aggravated assault, which include attempting to cause serious injury with a deadly weapon, one count of carrying a firearm without a license, one count of possession of an instrument of crime, and six counts of recklessly endangering another person.

According to a statement from the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, Schruby was formally charged in March of 2021 following an investigation of the shooting, which took place on Nov. 22, 2019. Following a three-day trial before Commons Pleas Judge Jeffrey L. Finley, the sentencing date was deferred to a later date.

Deputy District Attorney Edward M. Louka told the jury that Schruby fired at least twice toward a group of people, which included a 4-year-old child. This came after an earlier argument he had outside a beverage store at 1100 Green Lane in Bristol Township, in which he felt insulted.

Video footage from the store shows Schruby engaged in a heated argument with a man and a group of people he was with. He then got into the rear passenger seat of a silver Honda Accord, which drove past a parked vehicle where the man was gathered with his girlfriend, his 4-year-old child, and three others. Schruby’s arm can be seen extending out the back passenger window and firing two to three times at the group gathered around the parked vehicle. He fired another shot before fleeing the parking lot in the car.

No one was hit, but a parked car's windshield was struck by a bullet in the process.

"This didn’t have to happen but for the defendant’s actions," Louka said.

In court, Schruby claimed he did not fire the gun, despite his admission of being in the car and in that particular seat at the time of the shooting, and video footage showing him in the seat. Louka said Schruby’s testimony was a “sham story.”
