While testifying before the sentencing, the victim, now in his 30s, said that Hofmann destroyed his childhood.
The abuse Hoffman inflicted on the young boy lasted from 1995 to 2007. He was considered a friend of the victim's family, being referred to as 'Uncle Dave'. Most of the abuse occurred in the victim's home when Hoffmann would visit.

According to the victim, Hoffmann made attempts to silence him by buying him gifts.
The victim told his parents of the abuse in 2007. His parents were able to get Hoffmann to confess to the crimes on tape, which was used during the trial.
Years after the abuse occurred, the victim wanted to take control back of his life. He walked into the Falls Township Police Department on Feb. 5, 2020, and told them what had happened.
"With his brave decision to come forward once he was ready to do so, this brave victim sends a powerful message to victims of sex abuse everywhere: it’s never too late to speak your truth," District Attorney Matt Weintraub said after the conviction.
