Bucks Co. Driver Splits Utility Pole, Charged With DUI: Police

A motorist who drove under the influence and sheared a utility pole in half was apprehended last week, authorities said.

PENNDEL, PA - A motorist who drove under the influence and sheared a utility pole in half was apprehended last week, authorities said.

On Aug. 7 around 11:44 a.m., Penndel police responded to the area of 111 E. Lincoln Highway for a one vehicle traffic accident, authorities said. At the scene, officers found a blue sedan that had split the utility pole.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Christopher Lemerise, who was still in the vehicle and pressing down on the accelerator until he exited the vehicle to talk to police, authorities said. He was later charged with DUI in connection with the incident.

“While speaking with Lemerise, officers could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and person,” Penndel police said. “Lemerise was asked to participate in field sobriety exercises, which he was unable to complete.”

He is set to appear in court at a later date.
