BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Bucks County will be spraying for mosquitoes this week in Bristol and Falls Township.

The spraying is scheduled for Wednesday and is intended to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of spreading the West Nile Virus, according to health officials.

The areas that will be treated are bounded by Penn Valley Road, Fallsington Tullytown Road, Mill Creek Road, Levittown Parkway and New Falls Road.

The material being used "has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment," county officials said.

Certain mosquito species carry the West Nile virus, which can cause humans to contract West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain.

Weather conditions and other unexpected events could delay or cancel the spray operation. If conditions do not allow spraying on Wednesday, Thursday is the backup date, officials said.
