PENNSYLVANIA - Autumnal temperatures are coming soon to the region, but not before a summer thunderstorm marks the end of the season.

Wednesday is expected to see patchy morning fog, partly cloudy skies with highs near 83, dropping down to lows around 66, per the National Weather Service. But the temperate weather will start to sour in the overnight hours starting at around 2 a.m., forecasters said.

Thursday is slated to see a mix of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The first official day of fall will also see markedly cooler temperatures in the mid-70s, dropping to a low of 53 in the evening hours as the rain tapers off.

“Elevated instability may result in isolated thunderstorms, but expect overall there to be minimal threat of significant convective threats (severe/flooding),” National Weather Service forecasters said in a morning discussion. In fact, unfortunately for the drought situation, rainfall likely is capped at less than a half inch for most, though locally heavier amounts are possible.”

The silver lining: the weekend is set to be mostly clear, per AccuWeather, with highs in the low 70s.
