Free Pretzels Friday!

Sometimes it pays to be the early bird. 

Take Friday for instance. The Philly Soft Pretzel Factory store in Levittown is giving away free pretzels all day to celebrate National Pretzel Day. But, if you're one of the first 100 in the door of the 4216 Woodbourne Road location, you will receive a card for one free pretzel each day for the month of May.

Last year, Manager Rich Voroscak said the store gave away 450 soft pretzels on the annual day for pretzels, which is celebrated every April 26. This year, he said he's shooting to give away 500 or 550.

So, what do all these extra pretzels mean for the people making them? Perhaps just a little more hustling on Friday, Voroscak said. 

"Either way they have to come in at 3 o'clock in the morning," Voroscak said. 

The Levittown store recently marked its five-year anniversary, he said and is in the process of reworking the front of the store. 

On busy days, like Friday, customer lines "tend to go out the door a little bit," according to Voroscak. "(We want to) move everything back to make the customer area better and more breathable."

Besides Levittown, more than 100 franchised Philly Soft Pretzel Factory pretzel locations will be giving away pretzels on Friday. Click here to find another store.

In all, the company expects to give away between 35,000 and 40,000 pretzels systemwide, according to Spokeswoman Carly Levison. It will take approximately 10,000 pounds of flour to make those pretzels, she said.

Last year, the company's franchises gave out a combined 30,000 to 35,000 pretzels, Levison said.
