Middletown Supervisors Vote Down Woodbourne Rd. Development

The 111-unit townhome development had been proposed for a spot on Woodbourne Road near the SEPTA station.

MIDDLETOWN, PA — Supervisors in Middletown Township on Tuesday voted down plans for a 111-unit townhome development off of Woodbourne Road.

The development, which was to be called Lennar Orchards, included plans for three-story townhouses in 18 different buildings. Plans included 508 parking spaces and about two acres of preserved land.

Supervisors voted unanimously to turn down the plan, after hearing from residents and officials concerned about the impact it would have on traffic and other services, including the school system.

"With us concentrating on the redevelopment of the mall and its revitalization, additional traffic in that area is not needed," Supervisor Tom Tosti, the board's secretary, told Patch. "Also, there were too many waivers needed that had unanswered questions."

The project is proposed to sit on more than 15 acres near the Woodbourne SEPTA station and U.S. 1.

It was unclear after Tuesday's meeting whether developers plan to appeal the supervisors' vote in court.
