LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —The Bucks County SPCA has determined that the 53 cats recently rescued from a Falls Township storage facility came from New Jersey.

The SPCA said that the cats were found earlier this month at Public Storage at 370 Commerce Blvd. in Fairless Hills, where they were housed for less than two weeks.

The cats did not go missing from any Lower Bucks County homes.

The SPCA said it does not know the owner’s previous location and is working to confirm details with New Jersey authorities.

Cindy Kelly, director of communications and development, said that the 53 cats and kittens were kept in filthy, cramped cages and carriers.

Many were visibly sick, some seriously ill. The Bucks County SPCA medical team examined each one to identify their needs and prioritize treatment.

The Falls Township Animal Control discovered the cats and called the BCSPCA for help rescuing the animals.

"We received numerous lost pet reports from concerned pet owners in Pennsylvania who were hoping that their missing cat was among those rescued," the SPCA said. "All lost reports are checked against animals in our care. Our heart goes out to each missing pet’s family —unfortunately, it is now clear that these cats were brought to our community from out of state."

The BCSPCA’s investigation is ongoing, and charges are expected to be filed as soon as possible.

The cats continue to rest, play, and recover under the attentive care of our medical team.

None of the cats are available for adoption yet, but the SPCA will post updates when they are healthy, neutered, and ready to find the loving homes they deserve.
