Man Taken Into Custody Following Standoff In Middletown Twp.

Police issued a shelter-in-place order Tuesday afternoon for the Harbor Road area of Highland Park after police were called to the street.

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A man was safely taken into custody Tuesday night in the Highland Park section of the township following a barricade situation that lasted several hours.

Police said the man was transported to a mental health treatment facility for care.

“We’re grateful that the situation was resolved without any injuries to the individual or our officers,” police said in a 9 pm update. “Thank you to the Highland Park community for your patience, support, and cooperation throughout the day.”

Police later lifted the shelter-in-place order and reassured residents that the situation on Harbor Road was “stable and contained.”

“The individual involved is not wanted for any crime, and after a thorough assessment, we made the decision to scale back our immediate presence to avoid escalating the situation unnecessarily,” police said.

Marked police unit remained on the block to maintain a visible presence and help ensure the safety and peace of the neighborhood.

“An enormous thank you to the neighbors who provided water and bathrooms to help us out today. We are so grateful to you. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.”
