Police Urge Driver, Pedestrian Caution In Green Phase

Both motorists and walkers have gotten used to sparse traffic during Bucks County's coronavirus shutdown, a local police department says.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — With Bucks County headed to the less-restrictive green phase of Pennsylvania's coronavirus shutdown on Friday, police are urging both drivers and pedestrians to be extra careful.

During the state-mandated quarantine plan, which started in March, some pedestrians have gotten accustomed to sparser-than-usual traffic on the roadways where they walk, Falls Township Police said in a social media post.

"Some people have developed the habit of walking on streets and roadways because of the drastic decrease in traffic," police said in the post.

At the same time, they say, some drivers have gotten a little too used to near-empty roads.

"Police have noticed that some drivers have been driving more aggressively because of the reduction in traffic," police said in the post. "Both pedestrians and drivers need to bear in mind that the green phase will result in more standard traffic volumes."

When Bucks County enters the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf's plan on Friday, restaurants will be allowed to open their dining rooms to customers and businesses like gyms, nail salons and barber shops will be allowed to open their doors for the first time since March.

Larger gatherings will be allowed and businesses that already were open will be allowed to let more customers inside.
