BRISTOL BOROUGH, PA — It was a message of unity.

Then President-Elect Abraham Lincoln was headed on his train to Washington, D.C., for his inauguration when he made a historic stop in Bristol Borough on Feb. 21, 1861.

This past week, state Sen. Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tina Davis presented Bristol Borough Raising the Bar with $60,000 to support the nonprofit’s commemorative display honoring President-elect Abraham Lincoln’s historic stop.

Lincoln made a brief stop in Bristol Borough, addressing a crowd of more than 1,000 people.

"During a time of great turmoil in our nation’s history, President-elect Abraham Lincoln briefly stepped foot in Bristol Borough on his journey to serve in Washington, DC, spreading a message of unity," Santarsiero said. "That quick stop to refuel the train carrying Lincoln left a lasting mark on the Borough that prevails more than a century later. I’m proud to work with Rep. Davis and groups like Bristol Borough Raising the Bar to bring our area’s rich history to life for residents and visitors."

"It was a memorable moment in Bristol's history. His words and legacy continue to inspire us today," Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III and Borough Council said on Lincoln's recent birthday anniversary.
