St. Mary Medical Center Expansion Plans Approved

The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors approved plans for Bucks County's only trauma hospital at its meeting on Monday.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — St. Mary Medical Center will be expanded under plans approved this week, officials said.

At its meeting Monday night, the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors approved preliminary and final land development after signing off on waivers recommended by the planning commission.

The expansion near the hospital's emergency department is for MRI services.

St. Mary Medical Center, which opened 50 years ago and has 373 beds, is the only trauma center in Lower Bucks County. It is located at 1201 Langhorne-Newtown Road in Langhorne.

The waivers included realigning pedestrian walkways, adding rain gardens to manage stormwater runoff, and not changing the number of parking spaces.

,The waivers also included "new commercial and industrial construction to be built to maximize energy efficiency and use of renewable resources."

The EAC requests the developer consider partnering with an energy supplier to source energy from sustainable, low-or-no-emission sources, with the goal of obtaining at least 75 percent of its energy from renewable sources and to consider installing solar panels during the construction.

The EAC also requested that the developer consider geothermal heating/cooling methods for a green, sustainable supply of energy and consider adding electric vehicle charging stations to the asphalt parking area.
