How do you know the teacher?

My son, and everyone in the K hall team. They work with the emotional support kids because of problems with drugs, mental health issues, foster care and on and on. The saddest part to me is that when they have open houses every year 0 to maybe 1 parent typically come. The first year is the toughest because they are convincing the students that they care about them which is really hard. But by graduation my son and other teachers go and congratulate them. My son also hears from some of the students after graduation. How many teachers can say that? That’s why I tell him that he is the best teacher and man that I have ever known.

What does this person teach?

They approach every teen differently depending upon their strengths and needs.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

They teach the smallest group of students in the school who would have almost no hope of thriving without their loving and caring ways. But to me is that having these students all year he has worked in the summer program with the same students who he will probably have in a year. On top of that every year he can’t wait to go back to school and start again. Two years ago I was in St. Mary’s Re-Habilitation facility after a spinal fusion I needed. One of the people there looked to be the age of one of the kids my son may have taught. So I asked if he went to Neshaminy High and he said yes. I asked if he knew Ryan Smith and he said yes . A few days later my son came in while my son was visiting. They both threw their arms around each other with tears in their eyes. And this was not a special needs student but someone who my son had for study hall and he told me how much he admired my son. I tell my son every time I can that I couldn’t admire him more. Thanks so very much for considering him or the whole K hall teachers they are truly the best.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?
