Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds In PA Forecast This Week

Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are in the cards for PA this week, including potentially damaging winds and flooding. Here's the latest.

PENNSYLVANIA - Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are in the cards for the southeast Pennsylvania region later this week, bringing with it potentially damaging winds and localized flooding, forecasters say.

Monday isn’t expected to see much severe weather, save for dense fog in the morning, per the National Weather Service. Otherwise, Monday is slated to see mostly sunny skies with a high near 88.

The forecast will turn sour on Tuesday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., the National Weather Service said. There may be periods of sun in the afternoon as highs approach 90 degrees, but that won’t last for long as another round of possible thunderstorms will be ushered in between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m.

10 PA counties are under a hazardous weather outlook in effect Monday through Sunday, per the National Weather Service. While severe weather isn’t expected until Tuesday afternoon, forecasters are already warning of damaging winds and flooding.

Any lingering storms are expected to dissipate by the wee hours of Wednesday morning, forecasters said.

The good news: the rest of the week is slated to be dry and sunny with temperatures in the mid-80s, according to AccuWeather.

Here’s the latest forecast, per the National Weather Service:

Monday: Areas of dense fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Patchy fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a low around 69. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 90. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. South wind around 5 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 89. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 61.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 56.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.
