Spring-Ford Schools, Law Enforcement Training for 'Active Shooter Emergencies' This Week

Emergency responders will be at the high school and Evans Elementary School Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Spring-Ford Area School District will hold School Safety and Active Shooter Trainings this week at the high school and Evans Elementary, providing a practice exercise in the case of an "active shooter emergency" on school grounds.

The trainings, which will bring together local police and first responders, as well as school staff and officials, are “designed to enhance safety procedures district wide,” according to Spring-Ford Area School District Superintendent David Goodin.

The Spring-Ford Area Senior High School will be the setting for a training on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; on Wednesday, the training will occur at Evans Elementary during the same time period.

“Police agencies throughout the region, working alongside district teachers and administrators, will conduct specialized training that will provide key insight into the process, action and rationale behind what occurs during an active shooter emergency,” said Goodin.

No students will be involved in the in-depth training sessions, but police activity will be visible at both schools during the training time.

“The goal is to ensure the district’s schools are safe learning environments that nurture productive learning,” according to Goodin.
