Contractor Hired For U.S. 422 WB On-Ramp at Sanatoga Interchange

A U.S. 422 ramp project near Costco and the outlets in Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove townships will begin early next year.

LIMERICK TOWNSHIP, PA — A $1.42 million construction bid to improve the Sanatoga interchange was approved this week in Limerick Township.

Construction Masters Services, LLC of Sinking Spring was awarded the $1.42 million contract in the Dec. 15 meeting of Limerick Township's Board of Supervisors. The company's bid means the project's cost will come in well below budget; $300,000 below anticipated expenses, according to the Township Manager Daniel Kerr.

The project will build a westbound on-ramp to U.S. 422 at the interchange that is near Philadephia Premiums Outlets and Costco.

Construction Masters Services was one of six competitors for the project and is a PennDOT approved contractor, Kerr told the board. Three of the six bids on the project were within $40,000 of each other he said.

A $2.1 million federal grant helps fund the project, with matching funds from both Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove townships. Construction is expected to start early in 2021.

A related Professional Services Agreement was also approved in the meeting. Because the project uses federal funds, inspectors are required on-site whenever work is happening, under the grant program, the township manager explained in the meeting. The federal grant provides the $170,000 for those full-time services over 10 months, Kerr said.

The interchange project anticipates development in the area beyond the retail already in place near the Sanatoga Interchange, officials said.

A joint township project for the eastbound side is also under consideration if funding is found, said Limerick township officials.
